Nokia's Carl Zeiss beats all camera phones |

I think the cameras found on Nokia N series have better quality camera and video quality. Anyone agree?
The N95 and N82 are very good but the N96 is the best in my opinion and beat some of the new 8 megapixel phones out now. N96 has huge 16 million colours screen, 5mp auto focus camera and 30 fps dvd quality video
Is it the Carl Zeiss lens that makes Nokia's camera so good? |

No.
And n96 isn't better than the cheap c901,for example.

No its not the lens its really down to the software inside and the processor. Yes a good lens helps but even mega pixels does not mean better image. Its also down to sensor too. The Carl Zeiss lenses in Nokia phones i think is not real. We have already had Samsung do better Hi Definition video recording better than any Nokia has achieved so far. Although yes i think Nokia does make great image quality in their phones they are by no means the best imo

Carl Zeiss is simply branding. Their lenses are your regular plastic ones every phone manufacturer is using. And no, N96's camera is not the best by any means. The Pixon12's, Omnia HD's and Satio's cameras can easily beat it.

Never been big on Cameras but N82 and N86 8MP given excellent results, better than some of the other competitors at times, but i dont know about being the best. Before the Samsung Innov8 i8510 NOKIA were the best at video, maybe they still are due to the N93i having stereo audio recording and optical zoom, have no idea.

I have both n85 (=n96 camara) and satio... sometimes n85 camara beats satio but i think its just a matter of time till SE make things right. Nontheless nokia 5mp camara are very good no doubt about that |

Don't trust a "CarlZeiss lens" on Nokia phones anymore. They mess the branding bigtime especially on 5800. I'm like..."are they serious?" |

LOL funny you bother with the carl zeiss branding.....my 5800 carl zeiss is a joke compared to my rather ancient k800 which takes excellent pics.
i was very impressed with the n95 cam i admit...
but gucci the n93i optical zoom was junk when zooming in it looses lighting quality etc i have tried it on my friends and it was a rubbish.without zoom the cam was decent though.
overall the good cams so far have been,k800 and n95 imo will get my satio in a few days time so cant comment on it yet but i would definitely not say nokia has the best cam.

N96 is a joke. The Nokias are good in 5MP like the N82 and N85. Till they were introduced, SE ruled the scene with the K750, K800 etc.

Piero I don't agree. look at 6700 classic without Zeiss branding, it's the best 5MP

For those that think Carl Zeiss is just branding should look up the history of the Zeiss brand. They practically invented all the modern lens technology starting with microscopes and moving to cameras as they became available. As I understand it the point of difference with Carl Zeiss lenses was that they quality tested every single one instead of a sample like other lens manufacturers, dunno it that carries over to the mobile phone lenses but I doubt they would dilute their brand reputation with low quality lenses for high end Nokia phones.
Sony Cybershot digicams use Carl Zeiss lenses and when Nokia announced they had secured exclusive rights to Carl Zeiss lenes for mobile phones, it was a slap in the face for , I said at the time that it was not good news for and Nokia camphones have bettered those from ever since.
There is more to a digicam than a good lens but it certainly helps.

Well I guess we'd have to find out what the 'quality testing' entails but quality testing every single cZ mobile phone lens seems a bit much.
I'm not saying they don't but considering the huge amounts of phones Nokia cranks out it would slow down the mass production process somewhat / or be labour intensive, if they were quality tested beforehand.
